When someone talks about “addiction”, what comes to mind?

Instantly, we think of substances with highly addictive qualities. Automatically, you think of alcohol, smoking cigarettes, heroin, opiates, crack, and other drugs. Even porn addiction, gambling, or sex addiction.

However, it’s extremely important to remember that there are alternative addictions out there and they will have just as negative an impact on your overall health and wellbeing as anything else.

I’m talking about food addiction.

So here is everything you need to know!

Food Is Necessary, Duh?!

We all need to eat. It’s common sense. You could not possibly live without some form of nutrition or sustenance.

However, relatively few of us actually see food purely as a source of fuel for ourselves. The majority of us take an active interest in the different forms of food that we eat.

We socialize around eating. We celebrate by eating. Many of us look forward to our next meal or snack. This is why it’s relatively difficult to draw the line between acceptable eating habits and an eating addiction.

Believe it or not, the effects of food on the brain can result in individuals genuinely becoming addicted to food and the activity of consuming it.

Food Becomes A Replacement Drug

No one ever considers how dangerous food can really be. Unless you suffer from anorexia or bulimia, then you know the nightmare food can become.
