The Scary Truth About Nicotine Addiction

Are you a recovering addict who has a nicotine addiction? If you’re like me, you kicked your drug addiction but, can’t stop smoking cigarettes. Even though, you know it’s killing you!

It is estimated that over ONE BILLION people smoke cigarettes. That is over 20% of the world’s population.

Now, this would be understandable if we were still in the dark when it came to the health impacts of smoking. When cigarettes were first unveiled to the consumer market, the majority of smokers were completely unaware of the detrimental effects on their overall health and wellbeing.

Smoking cigarettes was nothing more than a simple habit for people. It was something the cool kids did. You know what I’m talking about?

Why Is Smoking So Addictive?

Point blank, it is not the tobacco you smoke or chew that is addictive. Nope. Not at all.

It’s NICOTINE ADDICTION.

Nicotine is added to cigarette tobacco in order to keep smokers coming back for more. Time and time again.

Nicotine alters the levels of two chemicals in your brain. These are referred to as dopamine and noradrenaline. Alterations in these chemicals result in alterations in your mood and concentration levels.

The changes in the brain with those two chemicals give smokers a sort of rush. Not like a drug high but, relief. As a smoker, you become hooked on this feeling. The feeling of reducing stress and anxiety.

Come on, who wouldn’t want to feel less stressed with less anxiety? Life is hectic. Click here for tips on how to cope with stress while kicking nicotine addiction.

Especially for recovering addicts. Smoking and nicotine addiction is a coping mechanism.

Ways To Kick Your Nicotine Addiction

Go cold turkey! That’s what the non-smokers tell you to do. The same goes for people who never experienced drug addiction. They don’t understand why you just can’t quit.

NEWS FLASH – IT’S NOT THAT DAMN EASY!

However, I’m not saying you can’t go cold turkey to quit smoking. The honest truth is that it’s not the most successful solution. It doesn’t work for the majority of people suffering from nicotine addiction.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to quit smoking on the market. Here are a few to consider.

Vaping

Your first option is vaping. When you vape, you inhale water vapor instead of smoke. This is deemed much healthier than smoking tobacco.

When you vape, you can use various different “vape juices” that give the water vapor different flavors. Tobacco flavors exist without the negative health consequences of real tobacco. Some juices contain nicotine, which allows you to slowly wean yourself off the substance without the unhealthy side effects of smoking too!

If this sounds like an option that appeals to you, you can read more here.

Nicotine Patches

If you want to wean yourself off nicotine slowly without having to smoke, you can invest in nicotine patches.

These provide you with a constant supply of nicotine for up to twenty-four hours, reducing your cravings.

Personally, this is my choice. I actually am on nicotine patches as we speak but, I won’t lie. I  still have a smoke now and then. By the end of the month, I plan to be done with cigarettes completely.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine gum is another option that is widely available on the market. Again, this reduces your cravings.

Actually, some people use both the patches and the gum in unison to kick their nicotine addiction.
